Caught Up In The Moment

Caught up in the moment
Kinda went along for the ride
Fell in with some fast friends
Who had moved to the countryside

We extended them all courtesies
As we would anyone who came along
They mistakenly took our simple ways for
A sign that we weren’t strong

They brought along their values
Quite different from our own
Yet we showed our hospitality
And shared dinners in our homes

I don’t know why you think you’re better than me
Is it your education or some pedigree?
We’re all just children on God’s green earth
Don’t need your kind to measure what I’m worth
When we all get together on judgment day
It’s how you lived not the money made
The gates of heaven swing wide for everyone

They found us quite amusing
As they bought and sold our land
Our farms were subdivided
Hell, we even gave them a hand

When the dust had finally settled
We were shocked at what we’d done
But the winds of change were blowing
And soon our time would come

No sooner than it started
Their castles all came down
The greed they were created with
Was the weakness that was found

I don’t know why you think you’re better than me
Is it your education or some pedigree?
We’re all just children on God’s green earth
Don’t need your kind to measure what I’m worth
When we all get together on judgment day
It’s how you lived not the money made
The gates of heaven swing wide for everyone
The gates of heaven swing wide for everyone
The gates of heaven swing wide for everyone
