Living In The Country

Been running from the Devil for way too many years
I reveled in the laughter and I choked away the tears
One day it finely hit me like I’m looking a mirror
Better saddle up your pony boy and get on out of here

I looked at all the angles took chances left and right
I peeked in every corner of the world that lives at night
Close calls were getting closer, rope was getting thin
Luck was barely holding, you know you can’t always win

Should be living in the country good woman by my side
Just like some old west novel that my uncle used to buy
I could be the hero and they’d forgive my past
Protect the town from danger and I’d kick the bad guy’s ass

All the whiskey bottles emptied, all the battles fought and won
Got to lock that door behind me gonna put away my gun
I’m sure they’re going to miss me, but I got to settle down
Gonna grab that blue eyed woman take it to another town

God knows it won’t be easy in fact this could be rough
I been a lot of places and learned a lot of stuff
The wisdom that’s been gathered they don’t teach from some book
It makes you wise beyond your years, but I had to take a look

Should be living in the country good woman by my side
Just like some old west novel that my uncle used to buy
I could be the hero and they’d forgive my past
Protect the town from danger and I’d kick the bad guy’s ass

Now I just sit back and wonder just how it might have been
If looking in that mirror had not forced me to begin
To question where I’d end up when I get old and gray
This country life and those blue eyes, I’m happy to this day

Should be living in the country good woman by my side
Just like some old west novel that my uncle used to buy
I could be the hero and they’d forgive my past
Protect the town from danger and I’d kick the bad guy’s ass
