Barn Full Of Memories
By Robert Joseph Plough © 2007
On a trip back home for holidays
Just a couple years ago
I took a ride down the old dirt lane
Where we used to make our home
Things were just I remembered
My eyes grew wide as I pulled in
A homemade sign tacked to a post
Brought my past alive again
It said “pony rides & hay for sale”
Hand painted by my dad
Life back then was simple
That old farm was all we had
Then a brand new sign it caught my eye
It said “own a piece of history”
The family barn was coming down
Cash & carry if you please
This old barn it may look empty
But it’s full of memories
Oh the stories it could tell you
A hundred years of history
The tales of champion horses
All the ponies that were foaled
Hard lessons about life and love
All the good times you could hold
At first it made me angry
How dare they tear it down
This was where we made our living
Before my parents moved to town
I guess everything lives it’s lifetime
Even this old barn
Someday we all will have to go
But our memory still lives on
Every member of our family
All the people who came by
They all hold special memories
Of this place tucked in their mind
So I walked around the barn awhile
Looked in each and every stall
Picked a couple nice long planks of wood
I’ll build a frame to hold it all
This old barn it may look empty
But it’s full of memories
Oh the stories it could tell you
A hundred years of history
The tales of champion horses
All the ponies that were foaled
Hard lessons about life and love
All the good times you could hold
